Negotiation Updates
Negotiations Update for Thursday, July 3 - Thursday, July 03, 2008
The APA Negotiating Committee met with management Monday through Wednesday of this week under the supervision of NMB mediator Mike Tosi.

On Monday, the first topic discussed was pensions. Management reiterated their desire to move the B-Plan into the 401(k) and stated that they have no desire to make any changes or improvements to the A-Plan. Later discussions that day focused on Sections 21 through 23 and Supplement Z of the Green Book, as well as facilities at domiciles and satellites.

In Tuesday’s meetings, APA affirmed its “all flying” position with regard to Section 1, Scope, and the afternoon’s sessions focused on Medical and Pilot Long Term Disability (LTD) Benefits. Management has proposed increasing pilot contributions to the medical plan and instituting contributions for post-retirement benefits. Management has also proposed limiting Pilot LTD to only 24 months of coverage.  APA’s proposals, which seek improvements to all benefits, remain unchanged.

On Wednesday, members of American Airlines’ training department briefed APA’s negotiators on management’s “Distance Learning” (home-based training) proposal. APA’s negotiators objected to several aspects of the proposal as currently structured. Later that day, members of L3 Communications briefed both parties on the conversion kit for 767 aircraft to fly Stage 4 CRAF Aeromedical Evacuation. Management has proposed adding Stage 4 CRAF flying to Supplement H of our contract. APA is examining the proposal. Several other sessions throughout the day focused on various aspects of pilot scheduling, such as pay protection, SEP and the filling of open time.

Negotiations Update - Friday, June 27, 2008

Two weeks have passed without movement toward a contractual agreement between APA and AMR.  Management continues to refuse to meet or negotiate with APA unless NMB Mediator Tosi is present.  Mr. Tosi was last available to convene with both parties on June 12.

Mr. Tosi is available next week and meetings are scheduled on June 30, July 1 and 2.

Negotiations Update - Friday, June 13, 2008

Yesterday, management presented three proposals to APA negotiators in the following areas: Supplement Z, Terrorism Benefit, Pilot Long-Term Disability, and Pilot Medical Benefits.

The company Supplement Z proposal offers to increase the scope of events that trigger this benefit but does not increase the amount of the benefit itself. The company proposals on Long Term Disability and Medical Benefits contain some improvements but overall represent a reduction in the value of these plans and a transfer of cost from the company to the pilot.

These proposals are posted on the APA web site at www.apanegotiations.com and can be accessed via the "Company Proposals" link on the home page.

Negotiations Update - Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Today, management presented APA with a proposal on Section 1 of the contract, Scope.

Under management's Scope proposal, AMR would be permitted to operate jet aircraft of up to 76 seats at commuter carriers, codeshare with other airlines both domestically and internationally with dramatically reduced restrictions, and charter other operator aircraft in order to carry passenger bags. Additionally, the cockpit crewmember floor of 7300 pilots required for the company to exercise the Commuter Exception in the contract would be deleted.

This proposal will be posted shortly on the "Company Proposal" Section of the APA Negotiations web site at www.apanegotiations.com.
